So a couple weeks back I went back to UT to help my parents unpack and also take a quick trip to Cedar City to enjoy a play at the Utah Shakespearean Festival. As usual, the trip was fast, packed, and fun. Part of that fun was going up Big Cottonwood Canyon to stay in a cabin with two of my sisters and their children for a night. We had a great time talking, eating good food, and watching a mediocre movie (Gentlemen Broncos: so much potential, such poor execution).
The next day we took a stroll along the boardwalked trails of Silver Lake. Afterward, I took four of my nephews to do a slightly more strenuous hike: Mary Lake. It's just a short little hike (4 miles up and back), but it passes through some beautiful, high mountain scenery as you wind your way up the skier trails in the glacial bowls of Brighton Ski Resort.
Blossoming wild flowers and dramatic granite boulders were equally abundant and the intermittent drizzle of rain kept the plants vividly green and fresh. Once we arrived at the Lake, we were disappointed to see how low it was. However, casting disappointment aside, we all jumped in and had a good time splashing each other and scrambling over the other-worldly granite outcroppings. A good time was had by all.
Verdict: Recommended.

Why oh why did you get pictures with people in them? These are the kinds of things that always make me wish we lived closer, just jump on up to someone's cabin for the night. I hope you had a moment of silence on your walk around Silver Lake at the spot where Brad & I got engaged & then sang songs of praise that the marriage never happened.
I am singing those songs of praise as we speak. Great comment Carrie.
Thanks uncle Mark for showing the boys how to really do a lake hike... by diving in head first. You are the best (and certainly most fun) uncle ever!
